Our sympathy to Bill Bateman on the passing of his mom. I have lovely memories of Mrs.Bateman going back to my earliest years in grade school.
The following was printed in the Suburban Life:
"Vera Marie Kjeldsen Bateman, born in Chicago, Illinois on March 20, 1914, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2012 in Naperville, IL. She was 98. A longtime Downers Grove resident, Vera moved to Downers Grove when she was 14 and lived there until she was 88. She was the widow of William Herring Bateman, a lifetime Downers Grove resident, who passed away in 1995. Vera graduated from Downers Grove High School in 1932 and from Norwegian American Hospital School of Nursing in 1936. While raising children, she worked as a registered nurse until she retired at the age of 70. She was also an active member of First United Methodist Church of Downers Grove. Vera is survived by her children, William (Ann) Bateman, Jr., Bryan (Bay) Bateman, Andrea (William) Kinsella; grandchildren, Beth (John) Marshall, Katy (Steve) Brown, Emily (Steve) Pullen, Laura (Jon) Loo, Kelley Kidd, Christopher Bateman, David (Kelly) Kinsella, Becky Bateman, Tom and Kate Kinsella; great-grandchildren, Kathryn, David, William, Carolyn Marshall; Bailey Bateman; Emily and Jessica Brown; Layne and Sophia Pullen; Tyler, Kayleigh, Ashley and Evan Loo; Jack and Anna Kinsella and Mia Kidd; many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, William; son, Marcus (Elaine) Bateman; grandson, Bryan "Beanie" Bateman; great-granddaughter, Lauren Brown; sister, Ione (William) Bentley; and brother, Carl (Janet) Kjeldsen. Interment will be private. A memorial service will be held in December at the First United Methodist Church of Downers Grove. I used to (before the bubble burst) take my car for servicing at the Saturn of Schaumberg which was really in Hoffman Estates. I guess some towns just have more status that others. Some say Chicago is an easy place to navigate. There's a logical street grid system, and if you keep going east, you'll run into the lake. There's also the nation's tallest building, Willis Tower, poking into the sky as a point of orientation. Nevertheless, people can get confused. Former Vice President Dan Quayle once declared, "It is wonderful to be here in the great state of Chicago." And he came from right next door — in the city of Indiana. Truth be told, Chicago is full of geographical quirks, and the area's politicians and business owners have engaged in insidious conspiracies to get you lost. Here is a guide to staying out of trouble.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
• Blue Island is not an island.
•If you go to Park Forest when you intend to go to Forest Park, you're 35 miles out of your way.
•If you go to Forest Lake instead of Lake Forest, you're about 12 miles lost. (And please do not confuse either of them with other woodsy-water-named suburbs like River Forest, Willowbrook, Streamwood, Lakewood, Spring Grove, Fox River Grove or just plain River Grove.)
•The Berwyn "L" stop is not in the suburb of Berwyn. Not even close.
•There is no lake in Northlake. (Its name is a combo of North Avenue and Lake Street.)
GEOGRAPHICAL MOVIE MYTHS
•Attention, fans of the John Hughes teenager films: There's no suburb called Shermer (although Northbrook used to be Shermerville).
•The original "Blues Brothers" locates Ray Charles' record store in Calumet City and shows an "L" line nearby, but please do not try to take the "L" to Cal City. It doesn't go there.

A Gordon Rondeau Update
When we last heard, Gordon was still in ICU. But that was about 3 weeks ago, so here's an update, from Gordon and Allene.........

Hi,
Phase one came to a close. Have Gordon with me at farm tonite. Leaving Wis for home Monday with a whole lot of medicine. 2 to keep bugs gone, 2 to keep heart beating, and 9 more for keeping lungs clear .... urine flowing, etc. He is to get with his Heart doc, urinalist doc etc upon returning home.
Pray for a safe travel home and the begining of Phase 2.
P.S. by the way 10 pills were ONLY $370.00 our cost, not $900. What a deal.

Hi,
Week one of Phase II, Arrived home (ILL) Monday nite around 5p. Have see 3 doctors so far. Alot of good news and some uncertainty.
Went to foot doctor Tuesday to see about right foot which he had been treating before incident. It seems to be coming along. To continue his exercise and keep elevated. Later hosp for a blood draw. Coumadin level good @ 2.4 and white count still high @ 13,000-
Wed lead us to Dr. Weinstein, heart doc. He believed Gordon did not have a full blown heart attack, only stress type which in time values may heal on their own. ( Hope so, no one wants to under go a operation ) He will have a EGO and stress test later beginning in August, this will tell the tell.
Thursday found us in Dr Rao's office. He also agreed with Dr Weinstein about heart condition.
He ran urine test on him. Germs seen to be gone but there is a slight sign of blood in urine due to many healing bruises. This too will subside. Rao believes it all started with mild enlarged prostrate which brought on urinal tract infection and dehydration due to fever and sweat attack. This caused a stress on heart. No drought we could have lost him, but he had an angle on his shoulder.!!!!
Friday back to hosp for another blood drawl then back to Dr Rao in afternoon for results.
Urine still showed signs of blood and count was down to 11,000- but his coumadin level was up to 3.3 ..... they want it to be between 2.0/2.5.. Doc wants him back in Monday. It is important to keep a watchful eye on him for another week . The germs could come back at this point any time. He is to monitor his temperature 4x a day, any sign of temp must immediately seek help.

Better is the operative word. Still weak, but am quite a bit better than 3 weeks ago. I'm able to eat pretty much normal, have gained back 5 of the 10 pounds I lost. Don't want to gain any more. Am able to be up for quite a bit longer now, like 6 hours before I have to lie down for a bit, as opposed to 1 hour when they released me. The GP said he thinks my heart is recovering on it's own, but won't know for sure till I see my cardio man next week. Still have an appointment with a urologist, as they think my prostrate may have been what brought it all on. Otherwise I feel quite a bit better.

Congrats to Judy and Andy -- Another Couple Hits 50!
It was so beautifully stated by Judy Dian Larsen on her Facebook page...
"Yes, we celebrated 50 years of wedded bliss today. Andy says the key is patience! And he's the Norwegian!!! We had breakfast at the beautiful Rittenhouse with Mary and Jerry. They added much to the celebration. Thanks, Andy, for your patience. But when you look at the scheme of things...we started out in a tent and today are living in a tent. Not that much has changed. My key word is flexibility!"
